Taking Care of the Elderly – An Illustrated Guide
Taking Care of the Elderly – An Illustrated Guide
As our population ages rapidly, the proportion of elderly people in Hong Kong is increasing significantly. The Census and Statistics Department estimates that by 2039, people aged 65 and above will account for 30% of the total population.
Most elderly people are reluctant to live in nursing homes, and aging in place is a popular option. In Hong Kong, many families employ foreign domestic helpers to assist with caregiving, but not all of them, including the caregivers, have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide daily care for the elderly at home.
In view of this, CKKF has published “Taking Care of the Elderly – An Illustrated Guide” to provide practical care tips for foreign domestic helpers and the English-speaking community. This book contains many useful tips, with detailed explanations and illustrations, on how to care for the elderly or for them to care for themselves on a daily basis. Information on common conditions affecting the elderly, such as dementia and Parkinson’s disease, is also included in the guide for the reader’s reference.
